The research activity of the DAH|MU - Data Analysis and Modeling Unit - involves the use of computational, mathematical, and statistical approaches to model, simulate, visualize and, in general, understand phenomena in veterinary sciences, ranging from the development of machine learning approaches for the analysis of data of veterinary interest, to the study of classical mathematical and statistical models combined with network science approaches to study epidemiological dynamics.
The DAH|MU intends to move beyond the traditional paradigm of data analysis through innovative multi-disciplinary research. Our goal is to show how data-driven methods and approaches can highlight key agents and dynamics that govern biological phenomena. In particular, the Unit interests and skills include network science, computational and mathematical modeling, and machine learning techniques in biodata mining, in particular evolutionary algorithms.
Among the principal research directions, we can underline: network-based approaches to model vector-borne pathogen dynamics and to study farm animals’ trades and movements; mathematical models of vector population dynamics and of virus spreading in farms; genetic programming approaches dealing with vectorial variables, in particular to study ecological dynamics and precision farming problems.
