Equine asthma is a common chronic disease affecting adult horses and causing a wide array of clinical signs. In milder cases, poor performance can be the only preceived sign. However, severely affected horses experience recurrent episodes of respiratory distress at rest. Equine asthma is associated with a reduced quality of life in affected animals and causes large economical losses in the equine industry.
With our research projects, we work towards a better understanding of the physiopathological mechanisms of the disease, especially in terms of airway remodeling and inflammation. Our goal is to implement precision prevention in equine respiratory medicine, for a better prognosis of diseased animals.
